The Yard of the Month committee was first formed in August of 1995. The rules that the committee follows are:
The committee is made up of three residents, with at least two members present to make the decision.
A different yard is to be selected on the first day of every month, and the Yard of the Month sign is then posted.
A yard may only be selected every 12 months.
Records will be kept of winners, including address and lot number.
Yards are ineligible if the owner is in arrears on any homeowner association dues or late fees.
Our procedure is to drive around the neighborhood together to select the best kept yard. We look at the health of the grass, evidence of edging, lack of weeds, trimmed shrubbery and trees, and well kept flower gardens. We usually find 3-4 yards per month to consider, and then by reexamining our choices, we make the final decision in unison.
We, Florence Warren, Sherry LaRue and Mary Jo Strah, have enjoyed doing this for several years. Sometimes our choice is so easy, but there are months that it takes us a long time to find the yard that is to be awarded the sign. This happens when our weather is especially hot/dry, with the lack of water. Winter months also present all of us as homeowners with problems to keep our lawns well kept.
When we approach the house, people are all excited and cameras come out. At our annual association meeting, we ask if the owners want us to continue. So far they remain enthusiastic and we continue our monthly "ride".
Please know that your type of grass does not stop us from awarding you the sign. Grass is only part of our selection, as listed above. We are looking for the best yard for that particular month ... overall appearance ...... not just grass.
If you have any questions please contact the committee.
